Domaine GérardMillet, Sancerre 2018

Vibrant Sauvignon notes of grapefruit and lemon with good weight and typical wet stone flavours.

Producer Note:

Situated in Bué in the Sancerre region of the Loire Valley, the Millet family has been making wine for over six generations. Gérard and Isabelle have now been joined by their son Steve. The estate covers a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, of which three hectares are planted with Pinot Noir grapes. Some of the vines are 25 years old. These vineyards are situated around various villages in the Sancerre region. This family owned winery is well equipped and has recently invested in new heat exchange equipment to ensure that the grapes and must are cooled to obtain maximum freshness in the wine.

Vineyard:

The appellation of Sancerre is part of the “central vineyards” of the Loire Valley, with almost all of the appellation situated on the left bank of the Loire River, opposite Pouilly Fumé. This region has a continental climate, as it is some 400 kilometres from the Atlantic Coast, with short, hot summers and long, cold winters. Early spring frosts are an annual threat in the vineyards. These vines are grown in chalky soils which provide good drainage for the vines.

Winemaking:

Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After racking, the wine was matured on its lees without undergoing malolactic fermentation. This wine was made in an unoaked style in order to maintain the purity of fruit.

Tasting Note:

An elegant Sancerre, with vibrant Sauvignon notes of grapefruit and lemon, good weight and a clean crisp finish.

  1. Paul

Now this is a wine, quality from start to finish. Green apple and melon so easy to drink .. will look forward to this in the summer with a crisp salad, also goes well with fish. Highly recommend one of the best wines I’ve had in sometime

  2. Niki

This is everything you want in a Sancerre. Crisp and delicious with lovely green and citrus fruits coming through on the nose and palate.

  3. Jessica Burton

It just oozes quality, from the bottle itself to the wine. It made me imagine I was eating seafood at a posh Mykonos restaurant (although I was drinking it in rainy Surrey). Would definitely purchase again and it’s a good one to impress the in-laws. Although beware, it goes down very easily!
